Sorry - I've already joined a team.  We're currently preparing for the Baja 500.
Looking to ride in
the Baja 1000...
I am looking to be part of a 3 or 4-rider team in this November's Baja 1000.  I ride a KTM 525 EXC, currently.  I am an advanced novice rider with many Baja miles under my knobbies.  I'm not looking to be on the team that wins, but I'd like to be on one that finishes - and impressively.

I'd like to find a situation where costs may be split between riders (fees for private pit support like Baja Pits, Baja-fication/upgrading of whichever motorcycle we choose to use, etc.).

I believe that these costs could be minimized to just a few thousand dollars for each of us.

I am a writer and marketeer by trade.  I am planning to document the experience for a magazine and, perhaps, other media outlets.

I live in San Diego and would be able to pre-run my section (wherever we decide it is) dozens of times before race day.  I am bilingual, physically fit, 37 years old, 5'10, 170 lbs.  (This last bit is vital for suspension and bike settings).

Baja 1000, also known as the Baja Mil, is a race that runs the length of the Baja California peninsula.  The Baja 1000 takes place during full moon each November.  There are a variety of race classes.  Motorcycles that have finished well in past events include the Honda XR 650 or XR650, and the KTM 525 EXC or KTM525 EXC or 525EXC.  Team Honda has won the event almost every year for the last decade.  Each team in the Baja 1000 race begins in Ensenada.  Often the finish line for the race is in La Paz, Baja California Sur.  In 2006, the race will be an 800-mile long lap that will start and finish in Ensenada and will pass through Mike's Sky Ranch, Meling Ranch, San Quintin, San Felipe, Puertocitos, and other parts of the Baja peninsula.
